WARWICKSHIRE PGA Masters Championship

The new WPGA Masters Champion is Andy Jones from the home club whose score of 65 + 67 represented excellent golf on a fine day laced with a tricky breeze which, at times, couldn’t make up its mind as to which way it wished to blow. There were some other excellent scores during the day and these can be viewed via the RESULTS page and by clicking the appropriate link. The chase was on to fill the seven spots available for the Match Play Championship later in the year and the 69’s of Messrs Mouland, Boland and Heritage and the 67 of Joe Smoothy helped their cause. The standard of professional golf in Warwickshire is rising all the time and it will be interesting to see how the players fare at a much improved Edgbaston Golf Club in August when they visit there for the Stroke-Play Championship. The remaining spots for the Match-Play will be up for grabs as will 25 spots be available for the Warwickshire Open Championship to be played at Kenilworth Golf Club in September. Idle Chatter: A small but significant piece of history was made when the Association’s only lady member played at Stonebridge. A creditable first round 75 but her 79 blew away her chances of a place in the top ten. However it was good enough for Katrina Holford to see off the rest of her colleagues from the Belfry.......................!!! Good to see Chris Wicketts back in Warwickshire and re-installed at Wishaw. One or two notable absentees from the Championship, Cameron Clark on Club duty as it was Lady captain’s Day and Craig Phillips refereeing in Wales. Cameron returns to regain top-dog spot at Edgbaston in August however master Jones may have something to say about that!
